Upcoming Computer Games for 2017

Welcome back, fellow gamer! Now that we are at the last entry of Cursors And Crosshairs, I figured that it would be appropriate to let you in on two upcoming computer games of 2017 – which I am anticipating to try upon its release – as a small parting gift from me to you. Without further ado, let’s delve into the array of soon-to-be released games on personal computer platform which developers have presented to the gaming community!

RiME (2017)

  • Genre: Puzzle game
  • Release date: May 2017
  • Age rating: PEGI 6 – Fear, Violence

RiME is a single player-based, puzzle genre game developed by Tequila Works, a Spanish video game development company and published by Grey Box Games. In the game, players play as a young boy who has awakened on a mysterious island upon surviving a shipwreck incident. There are wild animals, ancient ruins as well as a mysterious tower on the island which seems to beckon the protagonist to approach it. Alongside the wits of the player and the companionship of a friendly fox, the player are invited to unlock the hidden secrets of the island through solving a series of puzzles.

The trailer for RiME was originally released in Gamescom 2013 with the fact that the game will only be exclusive to the Play Station 4 platform. However, after Sony withdrew from being the publisher company for the game in March 2016, Tequila Works tool the decision to make RiME available for several platform such as its originally intended Play Station 4, Xbox One, Microsoft Windows as well as the newly released game platform – Nintendo Switch.

You can pre-order a digital copy of RiME on Steam here.

Prey (2017)

  • Genre: Action-adventure game
  • Release date: May 2017
  • Age rating: PEGI 18 – Violence

Developed by Arkane Studios and published by Bethesda Softworks, Prey is a science fiction, action-adventure game with the thriller element infused within. In Prey, the player takes control of the protagonist – Morgan Yu – who awakens from his slumber and finds himself aboard Talos I, a space station which is orbiting the moon. Once the player steps out in the main lobby of the space station, they are presented with the fact that something terrible has befell the space station – an invasion by the Typhon, a race of aliens which view human beings as their prey. The player, as Morgan Yu, will have to survive by avoiding or attacking the aliens head-on and at the same time, strive to escape the doomed space station.

Arkane Studios refers to Prey as an “open space station game”, which grants the players the freedom to develop the protagonist’s characteristics as well as making their own choices in the storyline. The gameplay also involves an array of weapons and gadgets such as the traditional melee weapon, close-ranged shotgun and stun gun as well as futuristic weapons such as the GLOO Cannon and the Q-Beam (TS-QPB-S11 Quasiparticle Beam), an experimental energy weapon developed by Talos I. However, the Psychoscope, a Prey-exclusive item, presents a new option to players during their encounter with the aliens, which is to scan the living alien with the Psychoscope and gain the aliens’ abilities for the protagonist himself. Prey, upon its release in May 2017, will be made available for platforms such as Microsoft Windows, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Play Station 4 and Play Station 3.

You can pre-order a digital copy of Prey on Steam here.
